This weekend we went to Ruidoso for some Cafe Rio pizza and to just escape the world for a little bit. That's exact what we did. It was rainy and snowing and even though the weather looked like winter, it wasn't as cold as we thought it might be. Seeing the fog and snow made me want to go to the lake and take photos because I knew it was going to be beautiful. Dallas posed the question to me while we were walking around town asking why I always wanted to go take photos when the weather was terrible. My answer? Because that is when it is the prettiest. I'm so inspired by the weather and how it can create and change in minutes and when we headed up the mountain to Bonita Lake that statement is nothing short of the truth. In Ruidoso, it was foggy and dreary but making the 20 minute drive up the mountain, the snow started falling even harder and the fog became even more dense. It looked like something from The Game of Thrones. WINTER IS COMING!! But really. It's spring time in New Mexico. Snow doesn't really make sense.
Back to the weather and finding it inspiring. I love the rain. I love the sun. I'm not a fan of the snow too much because I don't like being cold, but the power that it brings makes it so beautiful. Same with lightening. I love photographing lightening and shooting the unknown. Dallas hates it and says I'm crazy, but there's just something about the uncertainty and watching that powerful force come down just to realize how small we actually are. There is no way we could compete with lightening or a heavy snow storm, and finding the beauty in that is what I truly find inspiring.
