I was recently contacted about a specific Lensbaby image I shot and they wanted to see more of what I had to offer to feature. As I'm sorting through my images to send in, my mood immediately changes. I went from feeling kind of down to a happier mindset. The group I associate with are all extremely talented people and when I'm with them, I prefer to sink back into the shadows. I don't have the talent they do and that's totally ok but sometimes in the midst of conversation all I can do is smile and nod.
But going through these photos I feel like I have a place with something.
In conversation and working with beginners, digital photography is as easy as picking up an iPhone and doing exactly what I spend thousands of dollars on. The camera's today allow for anyone to take good photos, and while this isn't meant to degrade anyone just starting out, it's definitely a frustrating industry. While looking at these photos I'm sending in to my favorite lens line, I go back to the basics and having to know what settings to use and how the camera will read the light coming in. I go back to that place in time that I shot those photos and remember what exactly I was feeling and seeing with every tilt and click of the lens and camera. I look at these photos and I remember that I made that. I actually shot that photo and I'm the only one that saw that moment of time through my own vision. These photos make me realize that I am good enough in what I do and how I do it and nobody can take that away.
