It hasn't even been 24 hours after Declan was born did I head over to the hospital to start capturing him on camera. I will be the first one to say that newborns are soooooo not my forte and I get super nervous holding them, but in this case, Xanthia and Leland were awesome enough to let me into their lives for a hour to capture some images I think will be treasured for many years.
I have recently been getting more into the lifestyle/documentary style photography where hardly anything is posed and I'm just a fly on the wall. I tried it with The Little Mermaid and I loved seeing how the images came out. One of the reasons I love this style so much is because of the rawness and truth that it holds. In this case, I did direct very slightly, but most of the events unfolded right in front of my camera. I mean, you can't tell a baby when to yawn or smile in their sleep. It just happens.
In the end, I LOVE the way these images came out and from engagement to maternity to birth, I love these guys for allowing me to continue the tell the story of their beautiful little family.

Bettie Lou Cheney - Awesome job, Stephanie! Your photos proves how cute he is without parents and grandparents and great grandparents having to brag.
