Art is not what you see, but what you make others see. -Edgar Degas
I had fallen in love with his art after reading the book, "Marie, Dancing by Carolyn Meyer, which was based on Degas' sculpture, "Little Dancer Aged Fourteen." I remember the first time I saw a Degas piece. London, 2010, National Art Museum. I was walking about the Impressionist gallery, turned the corner, and there it was. "Ballet Dancers" by Edgar Degas. It was like nothing I'd seen before. I literally was short of breath and had tears in my eyes. It was such an experience to actually see, up close, this piece of art that he spent time and energy on. Ever since then, every major art gallery I go to, I go on a hunt to find THE Degas piece of that museum. I even got to see his most famous piece, "Little Dancer Aged Fourteen" when I was in Washington DC. I just sat there and stared at it for like 15 minutes. My brother left me there...
So why am I telling you this story? Because I was asked to photograph a ballet dancer. I was super inspired to photograph Miss Gillian in her outfits. I've known her for several years and have also photographed her several times with her dance outfit last year, and with the Tarzan production. She is one of my favorites in front of the camera and let me tell you, she comes with all her own poses! :D
So today, I give you... Gillian! :D
